Selepas Perang (After the War)

The historical period of ups and downs caused by the series of wars experienced in Poland had caused many after effects to the social and cultural condition of Poland today. It is my interest to learn and understand the reminiscence of these important tragedies and what it has done in the development of the Polish society. Historians and post-war philosophers have postulated that the atrocious acts of wars have punctured the dreams of nation. These acts have significantly contributed to the progression of visual arts and other form of creativity, not only as a form of expression, but also to communicate ideas, news, and propagandas, document, reflect thoughts and so on - a rejoinder in a very effective way. These are the signals of tenacious resilience of the community to impoverished environments they were experiencing. These signals reflected by the social condition during the war years have led public in general, and artists (which also include architects, planners, designers, etc.) in particular to be more sensitive in considering the importance of environmental psychology in their development of everyday life and cultural practice. I try to reflect my understanding and interest of learning more about post-war situations by trying to capture the rustic imaginary perception; the almost ubiquitous condition that is being left in today’s Poland landscape – buildings, old factories, communists-era flats, etc. The nearly dilapidated condition of these daily ‘objects’ is being manifested by the decision to use casted concrete and rib bar steel as materials for this installation. These construction materials are being seen as the most relevant in making some sort of ‘collaged’ objects in representing my research interest.
