Health Centers in Myanmar

In the last decade, the world has witnessed a multitude of natural disaster. Relief efforts from international agencies have contributed in improving the lives of the disaster victims. Our main objective in this collaborative work with MERCY Malaysia was to assist in medical services but as these areas required major reconstruction interventions, therefore, services from the allied built environment professions have been included in the rebuilding program.

On May 2, 2008, Cyclone Nargis made a landfall in Myanmar, causing catastrophic destruction and at least 146,000 fatalities with thousands more people still missing. It was a strong tropical cyclone that caused the worst natural disaster in the recorded history of Myanmar. Most of the medical facilities in the Dedaye Township were severely damaged and in need of desperate assistance in their reconstruction. From our knowledge provided by several Ministry of Health’s Officials indicated that damages ranges from the basic provision of safe drinking water from construction of ponds to building of new Rural and Sub Rural Health Centers are urgently required.MERCY Malaysia, with previous experience in rebuilding healthcare facilities around the world, is committed to fund, design, construct and administer the construction of several Health Centers for Dedaye Township.

  1. Nice work. I came across your blog while “blog surfing” using the Next Blog button on the blue Nav Bar located at the top of my blogger.com site. I frequently just travel around looking for other blogs which exist on the Internet, and the various, creative ways in which people express themselves. Thanks for sharing.
